The Mexican Brass
Saturday, October 25, 2025 - 7:00pm
@ The Capitol, Burlington Iowa
Be prepared to welcome our neighbors from south of the border who have –literally—toured the world having played across Europe, Asia, North Africa,
North America, South America and their homeland base of Mexico. This world class ensemble endeared Jens Lindemann—you remember his stellar band and impromptu trumpet playing with Richard Wright during our tribute to Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue last October. Lindemann noted, “M5’s infectious enthusiasm for performing and impeccable playing should be heard around the world.” We agreed as they celebrate 20 years of brass quintet performance. Their virtuosic musicianship and non-stop audience interaction will produce a great musical-theatrical experience for you! Classical with opera, jazz with pop—all live and lively at The Capitol.
David Burnham Broadway & Beyond
Friday, November 21, 2025 – 7:00 PM
@ The Capitol, Burlington Iowa
Be prepared to be immersed in a top Broadway talent. From Tony awards to playing the lead in several musicals, Burnham was last seen on Broadway in the mega-hit “Wicked” playing Flyero, a role he originated in the developmental workshops of the show. When he is not singing, dancing, or acting, he can be found writing musicals. Having his own “Happy 50ish” touring nationally, he is at work on two more. That follows tours with orchestras, being the recipient of the prestigious “Helen Hays Award” for Best actor as well as the Best Actor “Garland Award.” He also gained acclaim when called to replace Donny Osmond as Joseph in the national tour of “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” All of this brings him on tour to Burlington…amazing!
“David Burnham is talented, appealing, has a superb voice, and also can dance up a storm!” – Chicago Sun Times
Invoke with Pianist Clarice Assad
Thursday, March 26, 2026 – 7:00 PM
@ The Capitol, Burlington Iowa
Described as “not classical…but not, not classical” (David Srebnik Sirius XM Classical Producer), Invoke continues to successfully dodge even the most valiant attempts at genre classification. This multi-instrumental band encompasses bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, and minimalism.
They have recently garnered major prizes at competitions including Akron and N Y City. Performances include Lincoln Center, Newberry Opera House, and Green Music Center. A fine, fun, eclectic and “classy and sassy” group who turns their classical training into a tour de force for the audience.
Joining this tour de force, pianist, Clarice Assad, is a tour de force herself. Known for her musical scope and versatility, this Brazilian-American is a significant artistic voice in the classical, world music, pop, and jazz genres. The Grammy-Award nominated composer, celebrated pianist, inventive vocalist and educator is acclaimed for her rich textures, and diverse stylistic range. As a composer, she has more than 70 works to her credit, including commissions for Carnegie Hall, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Brubeck Brothers Quartet
Friday, April 24, 2026 – 7:00 PM
@ The Capitol, Burlington Iowa
Who can really be prepared to hear “Take Five” by a Brubeck…live! But…we will be as Dave Brubeck’s sons and their fellow artist brothers chase away the years while the audience enjoys one of the most iconic jazz pieces of all time – Take Five. Immersed in music and jazz since they were quite young, Chris once noted that out of the six siblings, four are musicians “with pretty big careers. Must have been something in the water….” Chris Brubeck continues the legacy of his father. His two bands, this one and Triple Play which performed in BCM’s 2007 series. They have participated in all the major jazz festivals from coast to coast…Newport, Montreal, Monterey and Playboy with Chris being known for doing all the arrangements, composing and doing charts for orchestras. That water had some kind of energy that lives on today!
